Of 30 AI banking cases widely cited in 2024 and 2025, 12 held or grew by November 2026, 15 needed material revision and 3 were discontinued or could not be verified. Key findings

Seven findings from 54 cases reassessed

  1. 01Scoped beats autonomous.
  2. 02The credential is now the device; national identity anchors proofing.
  3. 03Agentic value is real but smaller and slower than claimed.
  4. 04Compliance AI is the best-measured pillar, and its evidence is ageing.
  5. 05Tokenization has reached Islamic capital markets, as pilots.
  6. 06Distribution and regulation, not ledgers, drive retail investment.
  7. 07For small markets, the constraints are external and structural.
