Four research themes
Small island states meet the digital transition with limited institutional capacity, fragmented data and heavy dependence on infrastructure built elsewhere. Each theme starts from that experience.
- Research theme
Digital Public Infrastructure & Agency
Small states build national platforms with few vendors and thin capacity. The theme asks how those platforms can stay accountable to the people who use them, and how citizens keep a meaningful choice. - Research theme
Island Sovereignty & Resilience
Island states depend on cables, clouds and models built elsewhere. The theme studies where that dependence creates risk, and how small states can share capacity to keep decisions in their own hands. - Research theme
Institutional AI Governance
Global AI principles assume capacity many institutions lack. The theme works on the governance mechanisms that make those principles operable inside ministries, regulators and public agencies. - Research theme
Digital Finance & Banking
Small markets adopt payment systems, rules and AI designed for larger ones. The theme tests what the evidence supports, and how capacity-constrained and Islamic financial institutions can stage the change.
